We have Sprung Ahead the clocks this weekend and finally are seeing some sun, after what has been a long, eventful winter! Groundwork is gearing up for the season and preparing for seed starting. We are starting to see applications for the 2013 Summer CSA come in, and we are glad to see continued support from shareholders who have been with us before. Boxed shares will be delivered on Wednesdays weekly from Mid June through October. We have decided to put the link to the application below that you can print out and return to us at the mailing address on the bottom of the form. We encourage early sign up, as it means so much to the success of the season.

Our CSA program is designed to provide our shareholders with the best local produce available, from our fields to your table. By prepaying for the CSA program, you are directly contributing to the vitality of our farm, and to the overall food system here in Southern Maine. With your help, we are all working together towards a sustainable agriculture model where us small farmers can focus on growing the best food possible.

We are also accepting Market Shares for use at the Kennebunk Farmer’s Market on Saturdays throughout the season. We have a seperate application for this type of share which works basically like a credit line at our stand at the KFM. Market Shares help our farm in the same way as the prepaid regular boxed shares, but you can choose what you want at the market stand. Projected Croplist for 2013 Summer CSA Shares Sign Up Now!!

We have finalized our croplist for the coming season, as the seed orders start to come in. Before long we’ll be starting the first of our seeds, which typically are alliums in early March. Our onions, leeks, scallions and shallots are longer season crops that need as much of a head start as possible, so as to size up nicely in the summer. We grow a nice diverse crop of both with early and late varieties of each. Red, yellow, whites, cippollinis and early bunching onions as well as two types of scallions. We love our alliums!!!

This list is usually what we will grow on the farm, but we do add fruit and other crops from neighboring farms to supplement our shares as they come into season. Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, plums and apples are all planning to be distributed in this year’s Summer CSA as well. Usually we go out and U-pick fruit for our shares.

2013 SUMMER CSA SHARES AVAILABLE NOW!

Groundwork Farm is happy to announce we will again be offering Community Supported Agriculture Farm Shares in 2013. The season will run from mid June through October and we will be offering diverse vegetables, herbs and flowers for shareholders in Southern Maine. Groundwork strives to provide lots of diversity in their CSA Shares in hope that the shareholder will receive all their standard favorites and also be able to try something new or less common. We put lots of care and work into growing the highest quality produce we can.

We will be offering Full, Half and Market Shares this year. Full and Half Shares will be distributed in the Portland and Kennebunk area at a pick-up site to be determined as our group forms. Every attempt will be made to locate the distribution sites in a convenient and accessible place. Market Shares will be available in $100 increments to those who plan to attend the Kennebunk Farmer’s Market, where we have been every Saturday from 8-1 for the past four years. Please contact Luke at groundworkfarm@gmail.com to request an application and one will be emailed to you. We will be accepting applications with a deposit to reserve your share on a first-come, first-served basis for newcomers. A limited number will be available and Groundwork Farm will accept them until we are full.

As a CSA Supported Farm, Groundwork encourages prepaid Farm Shares early in the season, as this is when our costs are highest, purchasing everything we need to provide you with the best produce during our beautiful summer season here in Southern Maine. All Shares will need to be paid in Full by July 1st, 2013.
